Co-President's Report Larry Day and JoLouise McNally
This year was a mix of what seemed possible and impossible. Yet the work of WRHFH continues because of many who generously contribute to the ministry of Habitat for Humanity. Thank you to the board and committees, vo unteers and churches for your contributions and part nership that enables us to build decent, affordable housing for those in need.

Not everyone can swing a hammer but everyone can contribute in one way or another. This resulted in the completion of eleven (11) houses in seven years and house #12 in Siren is nearing comple- tion. The day of dedication is set for Nov. 13th.

WRHFH applied for and received two major grants. The ftrst, a $15,000 grant from Thrivent Financial for Lutherans, was for construction expenses. The second, a $19,000 Local Housing Organization Grant (LHOG) for an 18 month period, was for the purpose of hiring an offtce manager and upgrading the offtce computer. Candace Ascher was hired as our offtce manager and started working October 1st.

For various reasons, houses 8 and 9 in Frederic were returned to WRHFH this past year. House # 8 was sold in June and a sale is pending on House #9. Funds from the sale of these homes will en- able Habitat to continue our partnerships with addi- tional families in need of housing in Burnett and Nortbern Polk counties.

Whether you drive a nail, saw a board, serve on a board or committee, write a check, or volunteer in a host of other ways, WRHFH exists only because of your belief in the mission and support for the work of Habitat. Thank you to everyone who has had a part in build-
ing decent, affordable housing for those in need.
Fundraising Works!!
By Annie Slater, Fundraising Chair

The challenge of fundraising is ftnding new and exciting events that really impact the community. The June 18 Tea Party at the Pour House gathered together many good friends, as well as being ftnancially beneftcial. Also, the Siren Days jewelry and white elephant sale and our Home Show booth went very well.
One very fun event was begun by the Bethany Lutheran Church Quilters in Siren. Those women had the best fun when they bought antique fab ric from a Twin Cites estate and pieced it together to make a beautiful quilt. WRHFH then bought the quilt to raffle. Tickets for this one-of-a-kind quilt may be purchased for $3.00. Please call the WRHFH offtce (349-7477). Drawing held on December 5 at 3 p.m. at Bethany Lutheran Church, Siren.
Habitat provides a home built strictly by volunteer support. If you or anyone you know would like to help, please call WRHFH offtce at 715-349-7477, or write to WRHFH at P.O. Box 263, Siren, WI 54872.

WRHFH Hires Office Manager

WILD RIVERS HABITAT FOR HUMANITY has received a $19,000 Local Housing Organization Grant (LHOG) to hire a part time office manager and to upgrade our computer and office over an 18-month period. The office manager's position is funded by the LHOG grant, and no money from contributions is being used to pay for that position.
Until now, WRHFH has had no paid employees and has not kept regular office hours. This grant will allow WRHFH to establish office hours to better serve the public. Ms. Ascher will be at the WRHFH office at 7764 West Main St., Siren, from 9 a.m. -12 noon on Mondays and Tuesdays and will be available by appointment at other times.
This grant did not come directly from LHOG, but is a subcontract from Catholic Charities of Superior. WRHFH applied for an LHOG grant in November of 2003. Funds for the LHOG grants were limited and com- petition was keen. Although WRHFH's application got high marks, WRHFH was not chosen to receive a grant. Catholic Charities did receive one.

However, in June 2004, Catholic Charities discovered that they would not be able to use the grant. But they wanted to keep the grant money in this area, and subcontracted it to Wild Rivers Habitat for Hu- manity .
WRHFH thanks both the Local Housing Organization and Catho- lic Charities for this grant, which will enable WRHFH to better serve its partner families, volunteers, and the public.

WRHFH's new office manager is Candace Ascher of Siren. She has many years of experience in business and extensive experience with computers and working with volunteers. She came to Siren from the Shawano area where she was instrumental in starting a food pantry. Her husband, Rev. Mike Ascher, is the new pastor at Siren and Lewis United Methodist Churches.
