Habitat families: Habitat families "partner" with Habitat volunteers by committing to put in 300 - 500 hours of "sweat equity" of their own. Also, Habitat homes are not "give away" homes. Habitat familes do make monthly mortgage payments so they need to meet the required financial income guidelines.

Habitat affiliate: Habitat for Humanity provides home ownership opportunities for low-income families. Working under the faith-based principle that no profit should be gained from assiting those in need, Habitat for Humanity charges no interest on the homes that it sells.
