Is homeownership through Habitat for me?

The goal of Habitat for Humanity is to eliminate substandard housing from the face of the earth by working in partnership with people in need. We try to achieve this by providing affordable homeownership opportunities for low-income families. Habitat homes are sold at no profit, with no down payment, and with an interest-free mortgage.
The decision to buy a home is a momentous one, and you should first consider all of the responsibilities involved in homeownership. You will have to invest your time, energy and money. You will be responsible for the monthly mortgage payments, maintenance and repair of your home, landscaping of your yard and for paying all utilities. You will need to maintain adequate property insurance and pay yearly property taxes. Owning a home is a great deal of work!
There are many good reasons for owning a home! It is a place to call your own and settle down in. With mortgage payments, your monthly housing costs are stable and you are free of the worry of increases. Purchasing a home is also a financial investment. Each mortgage payment that you make can be thought of as money that you are saving for yourself!
Please note that Wild Rivers Habitat homes are covered by resale restrictions that reflect our interest in affordable housing.
