WILD
RIVERS HABITAT FOR HUMANITY INFORMATION AND CONSENT TO GENERAL GUIDELINES
WHEN APPLYING FOR A HABITAT HOME
Wild
Rivers Habitat for Humanity is a Christian housing ministry financed
through private donations and utilizing volunteer labor. Our purpose
is to build homes with families and sell the house at no profit and
no interest to families who could not otherwise afford a home.
Please
read the following items to see if you have an interest in our ministry
AND to see if you meet our general guidelines:
1.
To qualify you must have a need for decent housing. For example: no
indoor plumbing, poor hearing, leaks in the roof, overcrowding (three
to a bedroom), paying over 50% of your gross income in rent, unsafe
or unsanitary conditions.
2. Only families who can't purchase a house through conventional means
will be considered.
3. You need to have lived in our service area for one (I) year. (See
map)
4. You need to have a minimum steady income of $1,087.50 per month
($13,050.00 a year for a family of two), roughly 30percent of the
median income for our community, and demonstrate a history of financial
responsibility. You will need to include a copy of your most recent
Federal Income Tax Return along with your application.
5. Your total family income should not be more than the following:
$27,200./year (for a family of four), roughly 58 percent of the median
income for our community. You are welcome to check with any of the
family selection committee to see if you qualify prior to completing
an application.
6. With your permission, we will verify employment and other income,
verify checking and savings account balances, get a statement from
your current and previous landlords, have a credit check done, and
ask you for credit references. We will also need the names of two
people who know you and whom we can contact to provide statements
about you. Because this information is import to your application,
please be sure the names and addresses are complete. We would ask
that you provide the fax numbers if available for these people.
7. Applicants must show visible evidence of concern for proper maintenance
of their present living quarters.
8. If you are approved for a Habitat home, we ask that you be willing
to join in Habitat's Family Support Program to learn and practice
budgeting, home repair and maintenance.
9. If approved for a Habitat home, we ask that you be willing to work
300 to 500 hours of "sweat-equity". (The family needs to
put in at least 200 hours and other family and friends can work the
100 hours.) Families are expected to assist in construction of their
houses and the houses of others in the Wild Rivers Habitat for Humanity
Program. This may include clearing the lot, painting, helping with
the actual construction or other activities.
10. If approved for a Habitat home, $800.00 will be needed for a down
payment and closing costs, roughly two percent of the anticipated
sale price of the home.) You will have some time to save this money
before the closing if your
family is selected. Prior to construction beginning on your home,
a $100.00 payment from you must be made.
11. If you are approved for a home and if you meet the "sweat-equity",
down payment and partnering requirements, then we will sell you a
home at cost. . Habitat house payments include taxes and insurance
and will cost approximately $350.00 - $400.00/month. The house payments
will be used by Habitat to build more houses with other families.
This requires that you make these payments on time. Utilities will
be an additional cost to you each month.
12. Be sure you answer all questions on the application. Failure to
carefully complete all parts of the application form could delay consideration
and may even keep your application from being processed.
All
information is considered confidential and will be used only for family
selection. If you are interested in a Wild Rivers Habitat for Humanity
home, and if you qualify for a home according to the above guidelines,
we encourage you to fill out an application. Again, all questions
must be fully completed. In the event a question does not comply with
you please put "not applicable." The application will be
gone over with you by one of our family selection committee members
in the event you have any questions.
I
have read the guidelines and agree to proceed.
